WEARING THE WAREHOUSE

IF THE ELEGANCE OF CLOTHES LIES PRIMARILY IN ITS TEXTURES AND FORMS, PICHITA’S NEW STUDIO WOULD BE IDENTICAL TO A COMPLETE OUTFIT; AESTHETICALLY COMPLETE AND READY TO WEAR.

Textile textures are no less important than the form and style of any in a fashion item. Therefore, an understanding of the compatibilities and differences of materials and textures is vital to fashion designers. With that in mind, Arachawa Worawan and GOTE Company Ltd. were asked by a renowned fashion designer, Pichitra, to turn a two-storey shophouse in Sukhumvit Soi 31 into her new design studio. The contrast and continuity of the different textures and materials are accentuated in this warehouse-like space. They are evident in the rusted surface metal columns supporting the bare concrete ceiling, the steel rails which are juxtaposed by the wooden floor and the white concrete spiral staircase which occupies the center of this spacious high-ceiling studio. The designer’s working space is fitted with natural lights that make the refined white-washed wall and white working tables in the room stand out.
