MIRROR SALE

AN EXHIBITION BY LIAM MORGAN
MARCH 30 – APRIL 30, 2017
CASE SPACE REVOLUTION, BANGKOK

Mirror Sale is a collection of mirrors in frames which once held art-photographs exhibited in art-galleries. Some of the frames were hand-made by the artist. Some were not. All are for sale. One of them might look good in your bathroom.

The intention of this exhibition is for it to take on a performative aspect; the work exists largely in the act of commerce. Objects with a certain perceived value are displayed, viewed, considered, discussed and finally purchased (or not purchased). Matters of origin, quality, craftsmanship, aesthetic taste, authorship, pedigree and so on are examined- perhaps internally, perhaps among friends, perhaps with the purveyors of this commercial act. This behavior is quite natural to most of us, though its codes and subtleties vary greatly between selling classes and cultures.

Mirror Sale uses our normal commercial cultures in the context of an art gallery, where normally the commerce is less obvious to outsiders and the codes are opaque. Although the objects in a gallery are often for sale, there is a notion that their display is not ONLY for sale. Mirror Sale looks at these ideas. The result will be an undefined and open-ended performance of commerce. And hopefully we can sell some mirrors!
