ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE 5

Naoto Fukasawa

With the continually positive feedback gained throughout the four years since its conception, one of COTTO’s most anticipated collaborations, ‘Another Perspective,’ reaches its fifth year with legendary Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa invited as the curator of the project whose concept ‘Good Morning’ metaphorically compares a restroom to the space where one’s spirit can be lifted up. It’s the sanctuary where one embraces a state of relaxation and prepares the body and soul for new inspirations; the quality time with yourself that marks a fresh start of a new day. Each of the seven groups of young generation designers from five different countries including COTTO’s Creative Design Office was asked to create a work of design that would fulfill the project’s functional requirements. The work should also reflect COTTO’s identity while maintaining the individuality of each team’s design aesthetic.

‘Everyday Ceremony’ by Ferréol Babin is a woodworking collection inspired by items and artifacts used in religious and cultural ceremonies. The work was essentially created to function as an everyday space where the freshness of aromatic scents meet the warm feeling of wood and the tactile carved texture of the wooden floor mat with its aesthetic details and COTTO’s Scrirocco Sense series and Simply Modish wash basin complementing each other’s presence beautifully.

Nitsan Debbi’s wooden mirror, ‘HINOKI,’ has ‘Oke,’ the ancient wood bucket the Japanese has used to bathe for centuries, as its inspiration. The new interpretation brings about a new balance between tradition and the modern way of life, as the work together with the decorative details of COTTO’s rubber tile, Bianchezza and wall-mounted basin faucet render a contemporary space that bears the charming traces of time. ‘Small Steps’ by the dynamic duo Rui Pereira + Ryosuke Fukusada is a restroom whose superimposed levels create a visual perception that is varied by users’ different perspectives. The spatial program brings a serene and delightful ambience to the space while embellishing the presence of the Bianchezza tile and Scrirocco Sense faucet. studio NOCC’s work was conceived from the belief that a restroom is a place that one uses routinely. Their work, ‘RITUAL’ was materialized from such concept. It fulfills all three routines from washing and cleansing to drying, which are enhanced by the aesthetic and functional qualities of Marble Massa Herringbone mosaic tile.

Thailand’s STUDIO248 presents ‘CIRCULAR MOTION MIRROR’ whose uniquely beautiful feature brings a great sense of relaxation and reinvigoration when coupled with Calacatta Classico tile. ‘Growth’ is the work from another group of Thai designers, THINKK Studio. The vertical flowerpot set can be hung and arranged on the wall freely. It serves as an interesting decorative element of the space, complementing the presence of mirror, tray, shelf and other of COTTO’s products from Pietra, Neo Basalt and Balza tile to the Scrirocco Sense faucet and Simply Modish countertop basin.

Last but not least is ‘James Bond Island’ by COTTO Creative Design Office that picks up the brand’s M-Stone tile, exposed shower mixer and rain shower with inspiration from the geographical features of James Bond Island in Phang-Nga province of Thailand. Created is a revivifying and relaxing experience that encapsulates the vibe of a tropical archipelago fully equipped with faucet, basin, shower and shelves for the comprehensive functionality every bathroom needs.

Marble Massa Herringbone
