UNDERSTANDING COMICS

‘UNDERSTANDING COMICS,’ the   Thai language edition  published by art4d   will be launched at the  Architect ’16  Expo being held this April 26 – May 1 in    Bangkok .

‘Comics,’ in this sense, refers to not a book but a media with an incredibly complex presentational mechanism, very similar to a language system. Understanding Comics, The Invisible Art by Scott McCloud expands our understanding of ‘comics’ through its nine chapters that cover aspects ranging from history and the definition of ‘comics’ to other elements such as images, vocabularies, sounds, speed line, frames and evolution of color usage, all explained for the readers’ better understanding of comic illustrations. As worthwhile as the book may be for comic artists, readers and the graphic design community in general, many view the categorization of the comic elements as a bit too serious of an approach for this particular genre of art and somewhat of a fun spoiler. Having said that, the end of April will still welcome the release of the Thai version of Understanding Comics translated by Chaiyos Itworaphan and published by Corporation4d. So have a read and judge for yourself.
