Looking back at the 13th of October 2016, the day Thai people plunged into the nation’s deepest sorrow that followed the departure of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the editorial team of art4d decided to put a hold on the November issue they were working on at the time to create what would later become the special November 2016 issue of the magazine. Artists, architects and designers were contacted to serve as special contributors. Despite being given such short notice and with loads of personal projects and responsibilities on their hands, the contributors gave all their hearts and minds to the creation of the works that were intended to be an expression of love and gratitude towards their beloved King.
In October of 2017, over 50 works from that November issue were expanded from the size of a magazine page to artworks of a much larger scale and brought together into the exhibition, ‘Silence of the Universe,’ held at A Nek Pa Song Building in ChangChui.
Looking at the diverse artistic expressions of the works, we sense the sadness and the awareness, as well as the thoughts and personal connections that these creative individuals have for the revered King. What their works share are love, respect, longing and most of all the determination to create what would be the last farewell to their beloved King; the king who had been the ‘strength of the land’ until the very last breath of his life.
ย้อนกลับในวันที่ 13 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2559 หลังจากที่คนไทยทั่วประเทศทราบโดยทั่วกันถึงการจากไปของในหลวง รัชกาลที่ 9 ทีมบรรณาธิการนิตยสาร art4d ได้ตัดสินใจพักต้นฉบับที่มี เพื่อมาจัดทำนิตยสารฉบับพิเศษขึ้น การติดต่อศิลปิน สถาปนิก ดีไซเนอร์เพื่อเชิญมาเป็น contributor เฉพาะกิจเกิดขึ้นทันที แม้จะเป็นช่วงเวลาที่กระชั้นชิด เป็นเวลาที่ทุกคนต่างมีภาระหน้าที่กันแทบล้นมือ แต่ contributor ทุกคนก็ได้สร้างสรรค์ชิ้นงานที่พวกเขาต้องการถวายความอาลัยแด่ในหลวง รัชกาลที่ 9
ดังที่เราได้เห็นกันไปแล้วใน art4d ฉบับเดือนพฤศจิกายน 2559 และเมื่อตุลาคมที่ผ่านมา ผลงานกว่า 50 ชิ้นที่เกิดขึ้น ได้ถูกขยับขยายจากหน้ากระดาษมาสู่ขนาดที่ใหญ่ขึ้นกว่าเดิมหลายเท่าตัว สำหรับจัดแสดงในนิทรรศการ ‘ละออง’ Silence of the Universe ที่อาคาร อาเหนก ป้าสง ช่างชุ่ย
ในความหลากหลายของชิ้นงาน ทำให้เราเห็นได้ถึงการรับมือกับความเศร้า ความรู้สึก ความคิด และประสบการณ์ที่แต่ละคนมีต่อพระมหากษัตริย์พระองค์นี้ด้วยแง่มุมที่แตกต่าง แต่สิ่งที่ทุกชิ้นงานมีเหมือนๆ กัน คือ ความรัก ความนับถือ ความอาลัย และความตั้งใจที่จะทำผลงานของพวกเขาอย่างดีที่สุด เพื่อน้อมฯ ส่งเสด็จและร่วมถวายความอาลัยกราบแทบพระยุคลบาทพระมหากษัตริย์ ผู้เป็น “กำลังของแผ่นดิน” ด้วยสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณเป็นครั้งสุดท้าย
