ROOM Concept Store is at the top of the list of design-oriented furniture brands today with design shops in three Bangkok’s leading shopping malls each possessing its own distinctive characteristic. Today, Room Concept Store introduces Room Lab, the sub-brand that serves as the laboratory where new possibilities in furniture design are experimented on the fundamental belief that design is about solving problems.
Being a rookie brand as it is, when Room Lab introduces itself at International Furniture Fair Singapore 2018 earlier in April, it is chosen as one of the ASEAN furniture brands to watch with the simplicity that is meaningfully and rationally realized. The brand’s principal designer is also selected to be one of twelve finalists of FDA Awards 2017 (Furniture Design Awards 2017).
What distinctive about Room Lab’s furniture is the way it is conceived with functionality being the rudimentary element. Different methods are employed to the design process to achieve different purposes intended for each piece of furniture such as the elimination of excessive features, drilling a void to render the newer, more convenient functionality, all are designed to be simply assembled with the incorporation of innovation.
Such methodological conceived ideas are translated into works of design with qualities that can be intuitively experienced. One of the examples is BAAN Chair. With the design that chooses to cut the legs of the chair down to three legs to eliminate the visually excessive lines, causing the chair to be physically slimmer with the more refined silhouette that naturally makes an interior space look cleaner and stylishly minimal. The same approach is executed with the design of the THREAD Chair, in which the unneeded functionality of the tip of the armrests is eliminated to better achieve functional requirements such as the way the chair can be nicely put away under the working table including the adjustable features that enable the chair to physically correspond with each user’s sitting positions.
The use of materials of Room Lab’s furniture isn’t limited only to wood with other alternative such as powder coated aluminum used with the outdoor stool including the production process that interestingly incorporates simple carpentry techniques as the gimmicks of the work.
Room Lab’s design solutions proposed through the design of its furniture will inspire many more ideas from the design-oriented minds with the special qualities that encompass not only the visual perception and human touch but also the facilitation of behavioral and spatial experiences, using methods that may not be the newest but creatively experimented and executed to render impressive final outcomes.

แม้จะเป็นแบรนด์น้องใหม่ แต่ Room Lab ก็ได้ไปโชว์ตัวครั้งล่าสุดในงาน International Furniture Fair Singapore 2018 เมื่อต้นเดือนที่ผ่านมา และถูกจัดให้เป็นหนึ่งในแบรนด์เฟอร์นิเจอร์ที่น่าจับตามองของ ASEAN ด้วยดีไซน์ที่ดูเรียบง่าย คลีน แต่ทุกรายละเอียดที่ออกแบบล้วนมีเหตุผลและที่มา รวมทั้งตัวดีไซเนอร์เองก็ได้รับการเสนอให้เป็น 1 ใน 12 Finalist ของ FDA Awards 2017 (Furniture Design Awards 2017)
ความโดดเด่นของเฟอร์นิเจอร์ของ Room Lab คือการคิดเรื่องฟังก์ชั่นการใช้งานเป็นที่ตั้ง แล้วทำการออกแบบด้วยกลวิธีต่างๆ นานา เพื่อจุดประสงค์ที่แตกต่างกันในเฟอร์นิเจอร์แต่ละชิ้น เช่น การตัดส่วนเกินที่ไม่จำเป็นออก การเจาะเพื่อเปิดสู่วิธีการใช้งานรูปแบบใหม่ที่สะดวกขึ้น การเติมเพื่อเพิ่มรูปแบบการใช้งานที่หลากหลาย รวมไปถึงวิธีการประกอบที่คิดง่ายแต่ทำได้ด้วยการนำนวัตกรรมเข้ามาช่วย
ตัวอย่างไอเดียเหล่านี้ถูกแปลออกมาเป็นงานออกแบบที่ทำให้เราสัมผัสคุณประโยชน์ของมันได้โดยไม่รู้ตัว ตัวอย่างเช่น BAAN Chair ที่เลือกจะตัดขาของเก้าอี้ออกเหลือเพียง 3 ขา ทำให้เส้นขวางสายตาลดลง ตัวเก้าอี้เองก็ดูเพรียวขึ้น รวมทั้งพื้นที่ที่มันตั้งอยู่ก็ดูคลีนขึ้นไปโดยปริยาย หรือการตัดเท้าแขนส่วนหนึ่งของ THREAD Chair ออก โดยเลือกตัดส่วนปลายที่ไม่ได้ใช้งานจริง เพื่อให้ใช้กับฟังก์ชั่นตามนิสัยผู้ใช้งานอย่างการสอดเก็บใต้โต๊ะได้ ทั้งยังปรับให้เข้ากับสรีระการนั่งมากขึ้นด้วย
