HAVING BEEN ABSENT FROM THE STALL FOR A LONG WHILE WE COULD NOT HELP BUT WONDER WHAT KIND OF PROJECT THE TEAM FROM 2MAGAZINE HAD UP THEIR SLEEVES
This English language Thai-born and bred magazine finally made its way to readers with its latest issue that comes with a brand new and almost unrecognizable design. The 0 issue of 2magazine was brought to life through the collaboration of the magazine’s art direction team that has Lynn Visudharomn as the creative director along with Pakkanat Tanprayoon, the former art director who helped set the mood and tone including the direction of the layout back when 2magazine was first established. On the special occasion of 2magazine’s 12th anniversary, the rebranding has been, therefore, not just a change of the platform where the three words on its logo–art, fashion and culture, meet and mingle, but also a way for the content of each issue and the design-oriented storytelling techniques employed to make this comeback of 2magazine undoubtedly an interesting one that will definitely be worth following.
The price point that has stepped from 150 THB to 990 THB has certainly also created a lot of doubt, especially among 2magazine’s own followers. But after scanning through the 10 different techniques paraded specifically for the readers be they envelope, pop-up, di-cut, all the way to the special papers that are attentively selected and used, one can easily understand that the increased price is nothing but a bargain, making 2magazine Issue 0: Disruption well worth collecting and of more value than some of the pricy publications we’ve seen out there. In addition, the issue is packed with contents presented under a strong theme while the collaborations, which were once regarded as just a source of subject matter in each issue, have been highlighted with a focus being put on the collaborators who contribute to the publication’s newer and fresher materials such as the special collab between the three wonder designer sisters of Sretsis and illustrator Terawat Teankaprasith for The Sretsis Island project, or the vivid work of photography by Kachain Wonglaemthong that has Pearypie, the stylish beauty blogger turning makeup and food into something fun (and more alluring than ever) under the theme Femme Fetish.
With the frequency of the release changed from bimonthly to biannually, what the team has further prepared to do for its readers is take the next steps toward fully entering the digital platform as well. And while the web content is currently still pretty much solely a rerun of the previous issue, it’s exciting to see what’s going to happen in the future and what other fun stuff the folks of 2magazine will bring to the magazine industry.
