TUNLAYA DUNNVATANACHIT

Tunlaya Dunnvatanachit, a graphic designer who made a name for herself following the cartoon characters she drew on her own Facebook page ‘TUNA Dunn.’ The clean, simple drawing and straightforward but appealing storytelling caused her character to become widely known within a short period of time. As an illustrator, in 2016, she was selected by The Jam Factory Magazine to represent Thailand’s young artists and showcase her works at UNKNOWN ASIA OSAKA 2016. Dunnvatanachit is also one of the 11 female artists from all over the world whose works were featured in Women’s Day Google Doodle 2018.
art4d: What do you think about the comments that say your work is very feminine?
TUNA Dunn: It doesn’t really have any effect on me if it’s a general opinion, but if a client starts to think that my work serves only the female audience, that’s a problem for me because it means that a frame is being formed.
art4d : Who has been the most influential figure regarding the way you work?
TUNA Dunn: Actually, people don’t influence my work as much as music and movies. These two things have had an influence on me since I was a child.
art4d : What is creativity to you?
TUNA Dunn: For me, creativity is the result of a notion and a sentiment to create a new idea / something interesting / that revolves around something and possesses beauty.
art4d : What do you wish you had told yourself 10 years ago?
TUNA Dunn: 10 years ago I was just a high school kid, I would want to tell myself to be a kid and to not grow up too fast. Try everything you want and remain diligent but do not get too stressed because everything will come in its own time.

TUNA Dunn: จริงๆ แล้วไม่มีผล ถ้าเป็นคอมเมนต์รวมๆ แต่ถ้าลูกค้าเริ่มเห็นว่าเราทำงานเพื่อกลุ่มเป้าหมายผู้หญิงได้อย่างเดียวถึงจะเริ่มเป็นปัญหา เพราะก็จะเกิดกรอบในการทำงานขึ้นมา
art4d: ใครที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการทำงานของคุณที่สุด
TUNA Dunn: จริงๆ แล้ว คนไม่ได้มีอิทธิพลต่อการทำงานของเรามากเท่ากับดนตรีและภาพยนตร์ ซึ่งเป็นสองอย่างที่มีผลกับเรามาโดยตลอดตั้งแต่เด็กๆจนถึงตอนนี้
art4d: สำหรับคุณแล้ว คำว่า “สร้างสรรค์” คืออะไร
TUNA Dunn: สำหรับเราแล้ว มันคือผลลัพธ์ของการใช้ทั้งความคิดและความรู้สึกในการสร้างสิ่งที่ใหม่ / น่าสนใจ / แก้ปัญหา และสวยงาม
art4d: อยากบอกอะไรกับตัวเองเมื่อ 10 ปีก่อน
TUNA Dunn: 10 ปีก่อนที่ยังเป็นแค่เด็กมัธยมคนนึง อยากบอกว่าให้เป็นเด็กให้เต็มที่และอย่ารีบโต ลองทุกอย่างที่อยากทำและคงความขยันไว้ แต่อย่าเครียดมากเกินไป เพราะความเครียดยังไงเดี๋ยวมันก็มาเองตามเวลาของมัน
