LIVES AND LINES

‘LIVES & LINES – FROM START TO END AND IN-BETWEEN’ BY BE>OUR>FRIEND STUDIO TRACES THE NOTION OF ‘LINE’ WELL BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES OF DESIGN AND THE FINE ARTS.

Queuing up after Practical Design Studio’s ‘Rewind to the Next’ exhibition, be>our>friend studio took  over the space at The Jam Factory Gallery with their ‘Lives & Lines – From Start to End and In-between’ exhibition. Whether it is a coincidence or not we cannot be sure, but it could be the gallery’s concept to present viewers with the potential posed by a very fundamental design element, because similar to “Rewind to the Next,” the 12th year anniversary exhibition of be>our>friend studio also revolves around the realm of ‘lines.’ The content, however, is different and the ‘Lives & Lines Exhibition’ starts off by questioning the element, but the outcomes it leads to exist well beyond the boundaries of design and the fine arts.

The works we see from 13 artists ramify into many different directions and disciplines through four main categories: ‘Acknowledge,’ ‘Process,’ ‘Express’ and ‘Realize.’ It begins with the use of lines paired with a tangible and straightforward logic, such as the robot painting by Assistant Professor Udom Junjarassook (acknowledge) before reconciling into more abstract usage within Thanachai Uchin’s painting that navigates into the realms of the mind (express). The exhibition ends with Thích Nhất Hạnh’s drawing where the creative process itself acts as a form of Zen meditation (realize).
