TEHRAN BOOK GARDEN

Having extremely strict laws that control the content of published materials doesn’t stop Iran from having the world’s biggest book garden. Tehran Book Garden recently opened in July with its over 700,000 square feet being located in Abbas Abad Complex to the north of Tehran. It is said that the capacity of this book garden is four times larger than the now closed Barnes & Noble on New York’s Fifth Avenue. The venue is the hub of Tehran’s galleries, bookshops and over 10 cinemas and theatres.

With the policy controlling the book market becoming increasingly less intense and numbers now reaching some 8,000 published books in the past year, there is still banning of publications with contents related to alcohol, animals and the names of presidents of certain nations.
