FIRST WITH CERAMICS, NOW WITH PHOTOGRAPHY, PRACH KONGSUBTO ROHITCHAN (BON) IS STILL SHOOTING FOR THE TOP.
In a strange twist of fate, Prach got into photography because the student of ceramics had to take photos of his pottery for a portfolio. “It all started when I wanted to go and study at another college and my teacher told met hat I needed to send a portfolio. So I did the photos myself, and they were terrible. Then I asked a friend studying in the photography department to do it. But those were even worse. So I took a course in photography in order to take good pictures of my ceramics,” says Prach.
Once he got started on photography, however, he never returned to creating ceramics. Speaking of his new artistic pursuit, he says, “I think I’m a realist. I don’t really like travelling, but I like to see things in a certain way. I’m not good at drawing so I think photography is for me. In my opinion, it’s easy to begin, and it’s not so hard for someone who knows nothing about photos to jump from zero to five. But from five to seven, or up to ten, is really hard. I went from zero to five very quickly and I thought I was good. But when I applied to schools on the west coast I was never accepted, so that made me wonder. Finally I flew to California to see what was going on. I saw many images there which made me realize that my standards were really poor. Since then I’ve tried to push myself to improve.” His work is very diverse. When we saw two sets of his photos we were astonished by his style.
