MOBITECTURE: ARCHITECTURE ON THE MOVE

to be published with Phaidon and follows her impressive previous creation, Nanotecture: Tiny Built Things in 2016. Roke takes on the same approach by bringing together 250 pieces of mobile architecture, each of which is presented with a short description about the work’s physical features and number of users.

Just like the title suggests, Mobitecture features a collection of works of mobile architecture with the chosen pieces being presented according to their structural foundations that are separated into eight different categories: Human, No Wheels, One & Two Wheels, Three Wheels, Four Wheels, Five+ Wheels, Sleds+ and Water.

Another interesting element of Mobitecture is the article ‘Architecture on the Move’ that sets the tone for the book through discussion of interesting issues relevant to the birth and development of mobile architecture including homelessness, population relocation and the revival of public and deserted spaces while further considering how and in what ways mobile architecture has enabled people to go out and explore the world.

Mobitecture เป็นผลงานเล่มที่สองของ Rebecca Roke อดีตบรรณาธิการนิตยสาร Monument ของออสเตรเลียที่ทำร่วมกับสำนักพิมพ์ Phaidon หลังจากที่เธอเคยฝากหนังสือรวบรวมงานสถาปัตยกรรมขนาดจิ๋วแต่แจ๋วเอาไว้ใน Nanotecture: Tiny Built Things เมื่อปี 2016 การกลับมาคราวนี้รูปแบบการนำเสนอของเธอยังคงทำออกมาในลักษณะคล้ายๆ เดิม คือการคัดเลือกผลงานกว่า 250 ชิ้นมารวบรวมไว้ภายในเล่ม พร้อมกับคำบรรยายสั้นๆ ประกอบ และการใช้ pictogram เป็นส่วนในการจำแนกความแตกต่างของงานแต่ละชิ้นไม่ว่าจะเป็นลักษณะทางกายภาพหรือจำนวนผู้ใช้งาน

ความน่าสนใจของ Mobitecture ก็เป็นไปตามชื่อหนังสือ คือการนำเสนอ “สถาปัตยกรรมที่เคลื่อนไหวได้” โดย Roke เลือกแบ่งบรรดา mobitecture ทั้งหลายในเล่มออกเป็น 8 ประเภทด้วยกัน คือ Human, No Wheels, One & Two Wheels, Three Wheels, Four Wheels, Five+ Wheels, Sleds+ และ Water จะเห็นได้ว่ารายการของประเภทที่เห็นนี้ถูกจำแนกตามลักษณะส่วนฐานของตัวงานนั้นๆ (มีล้อไหม มีจำนวนกี่ล้อ หรือถ้าไม่มีล้อแล้วอยู่บนอะไร)

อีกหนึ่งส่วนที่น่าสนใจคือบทความเปิดในชื่อ ‘Architecture on the Move’ ที่นำเสนอประเด็นน่าสนใจที่ติดพ่วงมากับสถาปัตยกรรมเคลื่อนไหวได้เหล่านี้ เช่น การไร้ที่อยู่อาศัย การยักย้ายถ่ายเทของประชากร การกระตุ้นการใช้งานให้กับพื้นที่สาธารณะต่างๆ หรือแม้กระทั่งพื้นที่ที่ถูกทิ้งร้าง และการเปิดโอกาสให้คนได้ออกไปสำรวจโลกข้างนอกได้มากยิ่งขึ้นผ่าน mobitecture เหล่านี้
