JUNSEKINO ARCHITECT AND DESIGN
(For Thai, press here)
Located in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, Navakitel Design Hotel accommodates 68 rooms with four room types (type A: twin bed & king bed, type B, and type C) to provide comprehensive services for all users.
Conceptualized with the idea of a “Local Craftsman,” the design’s unique fusion of architecture and interior spaces results from the diverse expertise of local craftsmen (ironworkers, carpenters, and masons), whose skills and experiences help materialize the characteristics of Nakhon Si Thammarat into the hotel’s very existence. Another vital part of the project are the services, which play an essential role in how the building’s design is developed
In this project, the architect gives significance to the usually neglected system works. Through a collaborative process of working with electrical engineers, the design team develops the system works alongside the lighting decoration and other interior elements, including the hotel rooms, lobby, and corridor. Instead of being concealed with gypsum panels, the exposed ceiling showcases the details resulting from the successful collaboration between the architect and engineer, which becomes a pivotal part of the building’s aesthetic.
The architect chooses the thin and sharp steel plate for this 7-story concrete building to lessen its thickness and rigidity. The use of solid steel plates and expanded metal sheets brings an interesting dimension and blurs the building’s solidity while allowing natural light to make its way into the interior space.
