WHO

Baanrai Studio is an architectural design office which originated from Baan Rai I Arun.

WHAT

 Baanrai Studio is our small office that creates comprehensible works of architecture by  placing an emphasis on local and available materials.

WHEN

Our studio was founded in 2017.

WHERE

The studio is located in the suburb of Bangkok (Seri Thai).

WHY

After Baan Rai I Arun gained recognition and more people were interested in our design drawings, we assembled to establish Baanrai Studio for earnest design accommodating from then.

How do you define your own style of work?

Our work is thought to be simple and comprehensible. We attempt to build on something existing in that site and enrich it with the design which also hides our drawing by using approachable architectural language. We also make sure local craftsmen can work on the project too.

What inspires you and what principles do you apply to each project?

When we see our designed site being constructed on the basis of a feature existing in that site like a stream in the backyard, a huge tree in the front yard with natural materials. We extend our design work from the existing feature and it can make people feel ‘warmth, relaxation and happiness’ which is the response of how our work truly affects its users.

Which project are you most proud of and why?

Baanrai studio because this place is like a center between our design work and our entrepreneurship. We have learned from several problems from real experiences in order to build on them and adapt to design practically for our clientele. This place often explains the identity of our design work in a way that people can easily understand and it receives so much attention due to its distinct style which is distinctive from our surroundings making it more recognizable.

Which part of the process do you enjoy the most during work?

The part we like the most is on-site survey and information gathering. This process is like our opportunity to get to know the site and people to find out the features of each site. Since our duty is to develop and build on existing features in that site and narrate a concept through our design which will be created.

If you could invite any ‘creative’ for a coffee, who would it be and why?

 If possible, we would like to invite every creative, anyone to drink coffee at Baanrai Studio. That could be a good opportunity for us to get to know new people and have a discussion in our space.
