Air conditioners have traditionally been treated as appliances that sat apart from a home’s interior design. With Carrier BeyondX, Carrier takes a different approach by introducing a genuine wood front panel that allows the unit to become part of the room, much like a piece of furniture. This combination of design and functionality earned the model an Editor’s Choice at Baanlaesuan Awards 2026, which recognizes selected products and services that contribute to better living.

Carrier’s approach brings the essential features of a household appliance into dialogue with design considerations intended to support everyday living. This is particularly relevant to homeowners who pay close attention to every piece of furniture and each element within an interior. The idea led to the development of an air conditioner that uses real wood as a defining design feature while maintaining everyday comfort and practical performance.

Recognizing wood’s sensitivity to moisture, Carrier developed a special coating that helps protect the surface from humidity and scratches while helping minimize the material’s natural expansion and contraction. The front panel is made from ash, whose distinctive grain gives each unit its own character. The wood comes from PEFC-certified renewable plantations, allowing its warm tone and natural texture to be introduced into interior spaces with greater consideration given to responsible material sourcing.

In terms of performance, Carrier BeyondX incorporates features designed to enhance comfort with energy efficiency. Smart Sensing detects occupants and adjusts the airflow accordingly, with a choice between Direct mode, which directs air toward the user, and Indirect mode, which prevents the airflow from making direct contact with the body. Motion Tracking detects movement and switches to Eco mode when no one is present, helping reduce unnecessary energy use. The X-IONIZER air purification system releases ions and works alongside a filter to capture fine particles, including PM2.5, as well as airborne microorganisms and bacteria. The self-cleaning function also helps reduce the accumulation of dirt inside the unit and supports regular maintenance.

Cloud-connected functions are available through the Carrier in the Air application, allowing users to control the air conditioner remotely from a smartphone. The unit can be turned on before arriving home or switched off while the user is away. The application also provides operating information, real-time electricity cost monitoring, and alerts when an issue is detected, helping service technicians identify and address problems more effectively.

The Editor’s Choice award was presented at Baanlaesuan Fair 2026 on Sunday, October 25. Products and services considered for the award are evaluated according to user satisfaction, distinctive creativity, product standards, and responsible business practices. Carrier BeyondX was recognized for integrating wood into an electrical appliance while addressing the material’s practical limitations. Its approach to air-conditioning also respond to current concerns surrounding comfort, energy use, and indoor air quality. Together, these considerations point to new possibilities for how air conditioners may be approached as part of interior design in the future.

Carrier BeyondX is available to view and test at the Carrier Experience Space at Interlink Tower Bangna, open Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Visitors are asked to register in advance via LINE at @carrierevent.
