CHAT ROOM

GRISANA EIMEAMKAMOL TAKES ON THE ROLE OF ‘DOCUMENTER OF THOUGHTS’ IN AN EXHIBITION / CONVERSATION HELD AT BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY

Following the end of his bookshop project, CEO Books (which was open for operation from 2014 to 2015), Grisana Eimeamkamol  is back with a new idea that comes in the shape and form of an exhibition called CHAT ROOM, being held from 17th August to 11th September 2016 at BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY. Seeing that the design-related conversations held at dining tables or (some) good ideas on online social networks are rather short-lived, Kris felt that these great thoughts should be documented in a more permanent manner that could allow for them to be used further and evolve. Such an idea led him to play the role of a documenter of thoughts. The gallery’s space becomes a ‘large dining table’ where people share and exchange their opinions on design in Thailand. The best thing about this exhibition is that your comment will never be neglected or end up at the bottom of the forum because what you type on the website chat-room.in.th will be printed into a large poster and later put up on the walls of the exhibition room for others to see and discuss. Printing may seem like a reasonable method to prolong the life of an idea (after the exhibition ends, these ideas will be put together into a book), but a longer lifespan also  means one has to forfeit the ‘simultaneity’ of the discussion, especially the disagreements. It will be interesting to see how Eimeamkamol   will manage the arguments that will take place at this dining table and if it will be able to fulfill the expectations of his viewers. All remains to be seen.
