Among the chaos that is the world and the fast pace of life, an architectural movement emerges. Such a movement, however, is heading in the opposite direction to modernity, bringing people back and closer to nature. WDC together with Duangrit Bunnag, launches a new tile collection, ‘Mediate,’ born from an inspiration to convey and encapsulate the values of natural materials in the most straightforward way.
Mediate is a tile collection that embodies humans’ connection to nature through a material’s natural physical attributes. Designed to substitute sandstone, a natural material known for its refined, smooth surface and durability as well as water absorption quality that makes it hard to use, ‘Mediate’ solves the downsides of sandstone while preserving its distinctive, practical natural values.
‘Mediate’ is realized from the thought process that pays the highest respect to nature. It refuses the use of real natural stone for the environmental effects it can bring. Instead, ‘Mediate’ is made of a substitute material with similar color and texture while its 80×80 cm. dimension, which is different from the standard size of other tile products available in the market, brings a different impression and feel while capturing the natural sentiment without causing harm to the environment.
From an architectural standpoint, the role of cladding material does not end at it being used to cover a surface, but to render different ways of how an architectural space can be perceived. The relationship that the same material facilitates between interior and exterior brings seamlessness to a space, making it more spacious and comfortable. Meanwhile, the relationship of different yet complementing materials such as the use of a white tile with a dark wall renders a contrasting effect and experience that bespeak stylishness, contemporariness and luxury. The three designs of Mediate tiles come in three different colors (01 Sand White, 02 Moss Green and 03 Volcanic Black), and formats (60×60 cm, 60×120 cm and 80×80 cm), making them the ideal choice with a great variety of applications and designs.
