TECHNOLOGY HAS ALWAYS HAD A GREAT IMPACT ON OFFICE DESIGN
The most obvious example is the change of tools determined by users’ changing behaviors. A working desk once had to be designed to be big enough to accommodate the motions and postures of typewriter users while the size of a working table in the computer age was reduced but outfitted with the additional functionality of power outlets. Then came the full-on digital age that further downsized these tools as the Internet has redefined office design. One example is the replacement of cubicles with a common table for employees to share a working space.
Under Modernform’s The Way We Work 4th Edition manifesto, the key elements the brand has brought into this edition of office design encompass new office technologies with Exzy, a Thai-national start-up company, being asked to collaborate as a partner for the design of the brand’s booth at the recently ended Architect’18 Expo. The space inside the booth was divided into two different zones. With In-between Reality & Mind, Exzy’s use of technology in the context of interior design comes in the shape and form of a simulation of an office space through the use of VR (Virtual Reality) technology, which enables viewers to rearrange Modernform furniture in the virtual reality world. Another section featured the showroom of Office Automation Technology, which is comprised of a variety of Modernform products such as Touch T, an interactive working desk and Meet In Touch, an automation meeting room that presents itself as a new solution to the more efficient management of a modern office with an Interactive Meeting Room Display function where authorized members are able to book a meeting room via a smartphone and other gadgets. In addition, Meet In Touch’s technology helps control the duration and manage the schedule of the meeting room. For instance, the system can turn on the air conditioner 10 minutes before a meeting takes place and closes down all the electrical equipment (leaving on only the main lighting) when the scheduled time runs out, notifying the attendees that the meeting is over.
These technologies will have a direct impact on the users’ behaviors while improving the efficiency of meetings. Meet in Touch is also connected to the entire electrical system of the office, allowing for the effective time management delivered by the automation system to help reduce the office’s energy consumption. In the era of Big Data, these technological systems can help gather employee behaviors into retrievable data, whether it be the number of working desks or the actual units of electricity being used each day. Such data has grown to be more important by the day and it can be utilized as useful information for designers to create new design creations that better resonate with users’ changing behaviors. With the booth being the first step in the collaboration between Modernform and Exzy, it remains to be seen what the brand that once specialized in furniture service will bring to the table under its new role as a Workplace Solution Provider.
เทคโนโลยีมีผลต่อการออกแบบสำนักงานมาตลอด ที่เห็นได้ชัดที่สุดคือการเปลี่ยนแปลงของ tool หรือเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการทำงาน จากแต่เดิมเราต้องการพื้นที่บนโต๊ะทำงานกว้างสักหน่อยสำหรับการปัดและยกแคร่พิมพ์ดีด ถัดมาในยุคคอมพิวเตอร์พื้นที่โต๊ะก็เล็กลงแต่สิ่งที่เพิ่มเข้ามาคือปลั๊กไฟ มาถึงยุคนี้ที่ไม่เพียงแต่เครื่องมือเหล่านี้จะเล็กลงเรื่อยๆ แต่อินเตอร์เน็ตได้ทำให้รูปแบบการออกแบบสำนักงานเปลี่ยนไปจากเดิม อย่างเช่นการลดพื้นที่โต๊ะทำงานส่วนตัวของพนักงานเปลี่ยนไปเป็นพื้นที่นั่งทำงานส่วนกลาง
ภายใต้คำประกาศว่า The Way We Work 4th Edition ของ Modernform สิ่งสำคัญที่พวกเขานำเข้ามาใช้กับงานออกแบบครั้งนี้ก็คือเทคโนโลยีสำนักงานโดยได้ Exzy บริษัทสตาร์ทอัพสัญชาติไทยมาเป็นพาร์ทเนอร์ในงานสถาปนิก’61 ที่เพิ่งจบลงไป บูธของ Modernform ถูกแบ่งออกเป็นสองโซนคือ In-between Reality & Mind ที่ Exzy นำเทคโนโลยีมาใช้ในบริบทของการออกแบบภายในโดยการจำลองพื้นที่สำนักงานจริงขึ้นมาด้วยเทคโนโลยี VR (Virtual Reality) และเปิดโอกาสให้เราได้ลองปรับแต่ง จัดวางเฟอร์นิเจอร์แบรนด์ Modernform ลงไปในพื้นที่เสมือนจริงนั้นๆ อีกโซนหนึ่งคือส่วนโชว์รูม Office Automation Technology ที่ประกอบไปด้วยโปรดักท์หลายๆ ชิ้นจาก Modernform ทั้ง Touch T โต๊ะทำงาน interactive หรือ Meet In Touch ห้องประชุมระบบ automation ซึ่งเป็น solution ใหม่ ที่จะมาช่วยเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในการบริหารสำนักงานในยุคปัจจุบัน ด้วย Interactive Meeting Room Display สมาชิกของออฟฟิศจะสามารถจองห้องประชุมได้จากทุกที่ผ่านสมาร์ทโฟนหรืออุปกรณ์อื่นๆ ระยะเวลาการใช้งานห้องประชุมแต่ละครั้งจะถูกควบคุมด้วยตารางเวลาอย่างแม่นยำ โดยก่อนถึงเวลาการประชุม 10 นาทีระบบจะทำการเปิดเครื่องปรับอากาศเพื่อปรับอุณหภูมิห้อง และเช่นเดียวกันเมื่อหมดเวลาการใช้ห้องประชุม ระบบก็จะตัดไฟทั้งหมดจนเหลือแต่ไฟห้องเป็นสัญญาณว่าหมดเวลาการใช้งาน
