AFTER THE SUCCESS OF PATOM, THE ORGANIC CAFE WHICH BECAME DESTINATION AMONGS CAFE GOERS, NITTAPROW MOVES ON TO AN INDOOR PLAYGROUND PROJECT ‘PLAYVILLE’, WHICH SHAPES THEIR CURRENT INTEREST ABOUT THE LEARNING SPACE

เชื่อว่าถ้าเอ่ยชื่อ NITAPROW สตูดิโอที่ก่อตั้งโดยสองสถาปนิกหญิงอย่าง นิษฐา ยุวบูรณ์ และ พราว พุทธิธรกุล ออกมาโดดๆ หลายคนอาจจะชะงักไปเล็กน้อย แต่ถ้าตามด้วยชื่อ “ปฐม” (Patom Organic Living) ก็คงจะถึงบางอ้อทันที และภาพเรือนกระจกที่แวดล้อมด้วยต้นไม้นานาพรรณ (และแวดล้อมด้วยความแออัดของใจกลางเมืองย่านซอยสุขุมวิท 49 อีกที) คงค่อยๆ ปรากฏชัดขึ้นในหัว
Patom เป็นโปรเจ็คต์ที่สร้างเสร็จในปี 2016 ปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่าคาเฟ่แห่งนี้มีชื่อเสียงในฐานะแหล่งท่องเที่ยวเชิงการกินดื่มแบบออแกนิคของชนชั้นกลางกรุงเทพฯ ไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว แต่ถ้ามองในแง่มุมสถาปัตยกรรม ทั้งคู่บอกกับ art4d ว่า “สิ่งหนึ่งที่เราให้ความสำคัญคือการนำเสนอเนื้อแท้ของวัสดุ เวลาผ่านไป 2 ปี กระเบื้องที่เราตัดสินใจไม่เคลือบผิว เมื่อมันโดนแดดโดนฝน สีสุดท้ายของมันก็สวยกว่าวัสดุสังเคราะห์อยู่ดี แต่เราไม่ได้ปฏิเสธนวัตกรรมด้านวัสดุนะ”
อีกโปรเจ็คต์ที่น่าสนใจไม่แพ้กันก็คือ Playville สนามเด็กเล่นในร่มที่นำมาสู่ความสนใจในการทำงานสถาปัตยกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเด็กของทั้งคู่ในปัจจุบัน “ตอนแรกเราค่อนข้างลังเลว่าจะรับโปรเจ็คต์นี้ดีไหม เพราะไม่เคยทำมาก่อน แต่การทำโปรเจ็คต์นี้ทำให้เราเรียนรู้อะไรมากขึ้น มันมีรายละเอียดเพิ่มเข้ามาเยอะมากทั้งในแง่ความปลอดภัย หรือแม้กระทั่งพฤติกรรมของเด็กในวัยต่างๆ” ทั้งคู่กำลังโฟกัสไปที่การทำออฟฟิศแห่งใหม่อยู่ตอนนี้ ส่วนภาพการทำงานของ NITAPROW ใน 5 ปีข้างหน้านั้น ทั้งคู่บอกกับ art4d ว่าไม่ได้ต้องการขยายออฟฟิศให้ใหญ่แต่ตั้งเป้าไว้ว่าอยากจะดูแลงานออกแบบให้ทั่วถึงมากขึ้น
There might be a pause of curiosity when the name NITAPROW is mentioned without any background story. But if the name of of the studio with two architects, Nita Yuvaboon and Prow Puttorngul as the founders were mentioned along side Patom Organic Living, many of you would probably recognize or be reminded of an image of a glass house with beautiful foliage and flora (amidst the congested urban space of Soi Sukhumvit 49 neighborhood).
Patom is completed in 2016 and it’s become undeniable that the cafe has gained a reputation as somewhat a destination for the middle-class organic foodie of Bangkok. Architecturally speaking, “One of the things we prioritize is the presentation of the materials’ true natures. It’s been two years now, the tiles that we decided to leave uncoated and exposed to the rain and sunlight end up being more beautiful than the artificial materials. Not that we’re against modern material innovations, though,” said the two architects of NITAPROW to art4d.
Another equally interesting project is Playville, an indoor playground that got them interested in architecture for children. “We were quite hesitant about taking the project at first because it was something we had never done before but it was definitely a learning curve. There were so many details from the safety issues and behaviors of children of different age groups that we had to think about.” The two architects are now focusing on their newly-founded office while their plan for NITAPROW in the next five years, according to what they told art4d, is they haven’t had the desire to expand, and the main objective to be as much involved in every project they do as much as possible.
