เพราะงานออกแบบที่ดีจะต้องใส่ใจถึงทุกรายละเอียดของอรรถประโยชน์ สามารถใช้งานได้ง่าย มีคุณภาพดี ที่สำคัญไปกว่านั้นคือสามารถแก้ปัญหาและทำให้การใช้ชีวิตมีความสะดวก สบาย และสวยงามมากขึ้น ซึ่งนี่ก็คือปรัชญาในการทำงานของ ‘ROOM Lab’ แบรนด์ออกแบบเฟอร์นิเจอร์ที่การทำงานของพวกเขาเปรียบได้กับการค้นคว้าและค้นหาความเป็นไปได้ในห้องทดลอง เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลิตภัณฑ์สำหรับการใช้งานภายในบ้านให้มีคุณสมบัติแบบเดียวกับสิ่งที่กล่าวมาข้างต้น
Spot Coffee Table
งานของ Room Lab มีตั้งแต่ ‘Spot Coffee Table’ โต๊ะกลางที่ถูกออกแบบให้พื้นที่ส่วนหนึ่งของท็อปโต๊ะเป็นส่วนที่สามารถแยกออกมาได้อย่างอิสระ มีชั้นเก็บของรองรับอยู่ด้านใต้ โดยส่วนที่มีลักษณะคล้ายถาดนี้สามารถใช้วางหรือเคลื่อนย้ายแก้วนํ้า รวมทั้งสิ่งละอันพันละน้อยได้ ขณะเดียวกัน เมื่อมีการแยกถาดออก ช่องว่างที่เกิดขึ้นบนท็อปโต๊ะดังกล่าวยังช่วยเพิ่มพื้นที่ในแนวตั้งให้กับชั้นวางของด้านล่าง ซึ่งสามารถใช้วางของทรงสูง เช่น เหยือกนํ้าหรือแจกันได้อย่างมั่นคงและปลอดภัย ทว่าก็ไม่ไปบดบังสายตาขณะใช้งานท็อปโต๊ะ สำหรับชั้นด้านล่างถูกวางหน้าที่เพื่อใช้เก็บสิ่งของที่สามารถมองเห็นและเข้าถึงได้ง่าย เมื่อไม่มีการใช้งาน ตัวถาดก็สามารถวางเก็บกลับเข้าที่เดิม อย่างเรียบเนียนและกลืนไปกับท็อปโต๊ะ
Thread Chair
‘Thread Chair’ เป็นเก้าอี้ที่นำเอาองค์ประกอบต่างๆ ของการเย็บผ้ามาประยุกต์ใช้ โดยนักออกแบบดีไซน์วิธีการยึดโครงสร้างไม้แต่ละจุดให้มีส่วนที่ยื่นหรือล้ำองค์ประกอบอื่นเพื่อเพิ่มประโยชน์ใช้สอยให้มากขึ้น เป็นต้นว่า การยึดส่วนขาหลังเข้ากับพนักพิง โดยใส่ดีเทลของที่วางแขนให้ยื่นพ้นผนังพิงเพียงเล็กน้อย หรือการออกแบบขาด้านหน้าให้มีส่วนไม้ยื่นออกมาเหนือที่นั่ง ไปจนถึงการออกแบบในโครงสร้างให้มีความโปร่ง ขณะที่ลดเส้นโครงสร้างที่ต่อเนื่องจากขาหน้าลง ซึ่งส่งผลให้ที่วางแขนมีความกว้าง ไม่ปิดล้อมโครงสร้างของเก้าอี้ และยังแข็งแรงทนทานต่อการใช้งาน โดยตัวโครงสร้างทำขึ้นจากไม้จริงและมีการยึดโครงสร้างหลักต่างๆ เข้าด้วยกันด้วยการใส่เดือย นอกจากนี้ยังมีการใช้แผ่นไม้อัดในส่วนที่นั่งและพนักพิง ด้วยเหตุเพราะเป็นวัสดุที่สามารถดัดโค้งเพื่อเข้ากับสรีระของผู้ใช้งาน อีกทั้งยังสามารถคงไว้ซึ่งความบางของวัสดุและเหมาะกับการใช้งานในระยะเวลานานอีกด้วย
Trim Dressing Unit
ขณะที่งานการออกแบบหน่วยการแต่งตัวในนาม ‘Trim Dressing Unit’ ถูกออกแบบมาเพื่อเชื่อมโยงไปกับการเปลี่ยนแปลงของคำว่า ‘พื้นที่’ ที่มีจำนวนลดลง แต่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มขึ้น จึงทำให้เกิดการจัดระบบพื้นที่ให้เหมาะสมกับการใช้งานในรูปแบบ “แทนที่” ระบบการใช้พื้นที่แบบเดิม ดังนั้น Trim Dressing Unit ชิ้นนี้จึงดีไซน์เพื่อแทนที่พฤติกรรมการใช้สเปซในการแต่งตัว โดยมีประโยชน์ใช้สอยทั้งการเก็บ วาง แขวน ด้วยดีเทลที่ใส่เข้าไป ตั้งแต่ถาดหนังสำหรับวางสิ่งของขนาดเล็กอย่างพวงกุญแจ ราวและห่วงสำหรับใช้แขวนเสื้อโค้ท หมวก ร่ม กระเป๋าหรือเป้ ไปจนถึงการทำปลายเปิดของขาแต่ละข้างให้สามารถใช้แขวนกระเป๋า ผ้าพันคอ หรือหมวกได้อีก โดยฟังก์ชั่นของ Trim Dressing Unit นี้มีแนวคิดในการออกแบบตามชื่อ นั่นคือการตัดเล็มส่วนต่างๆ ของวัสดุชนิดหนึ่งและแทนที่ส่วนนั้นด้วยวัสดุอื่นเพื่อให้เกิดหน้าที่ใช้สอยที่มากยิ่งขึ้น และมีความสัมพันธ์สอดคล้องไปกับการเตรียมความพร้อมก่อนออกจากพื้นที่พักอาศัย ด้วยขนาดกะทัดรัดและประโยชน์ใช้สอยที่หลากหลาย ยูนิตดังกล่าวจึงสามารถติดตั้งได้ในหลายพื้นที่ใช้งานไม่ว่าจะเป็นประตูหน้า ห้องแต่งตัว ห้องนอน หรือห้องทำงานส่วนตัวก็ได้เช่นกัน
Spot Coffee Table
Good design is a result of great attention to details, encompassing functionality, practicality, quality and more importantly, the ability to provide solutions that make life more convenient, comfortable and aesthetically pleasant. The aforementioned qualities pretty much embody the philosophy behind the operation of ‘ROOM Lab’, a furniture brand whose design repertoire revolves around the search and research for new possibilities through creative experiments that render products of comprehensive functionality and aesthetic fulfillment.
Among their growing collection is ‘Spot Coffee Table’. The table’s top is designed to have a moveable tray that can be independently removed, granting access to the compartment underneath while offering more versatile functionalities. The wooden tray can be used as a placement for glasses and other miscellaneous objects. Once the tray is taken out, the void creates a vertical space that physically connects to the compartment below where objects of greater height such as vases and bottles can be securely placed without disrupting the table tops surface. The lower compartment is designed to serve as a visual and physically accessible storage space, while the tray can be placed back on and rests seamlessly as a part of the top piece.
Thread Chair
With ‘Thread Chair’, ROOM Lab applies different sewing elements to furniture design. The wooden structure is jointed with extruding or overlapping details that adds extra functionalities to the piece. The back legs are joined to the backrest with the armrests projecting slightly towards the back, while the front legs are intentionally designed with the details of top ends that piece through the seat. The structure is materialized to be physically light with the mass of the structural details of the front legs simplified, causing the armrests to be wider and to better complement the chair’s overall structure while providing greater durability. The structure is made of real wood with the use of dowels for the joinery of the chair’s structural component. The plywood used in the construction of the seat and backrest does not only offer longevity, but also provides flexibility that allows the chair to ergonomically correspond with the user’s postures thanks to its comparatively thinner mass.
Trim Dressing Unit
For ‘Trim Dressing Unit’, the design is realized in reference to the increasing land prices and its direct effect on the minimization of today’s living space. It inspires the design team of ROOM Lab to work on the idea of creating a dressing unit whose functionality is maximized through the replacement of people’s conventional use of space. Designed as a new solution for the way people use of space when they are getting dressed, the unit comes with a storage space for hanging clothes and compartments with additional details of a leather tray where small objects such as key rings can be placed. Included in the unit are a bar and hoops for hanging coats, hats, umbrellas, bags or backpacks. The top end of each leg can be used to hang additional items. Like its name, Trim Dressing Unit’s design cuts and trims a material before replacing and joining it with another type of material to maximize its functional capabilities that better resonate with people’s behaviors when they are getting ready to leave their homes. With the size not being too big and the diverse functionalities it offers, the unit can be installed in different functional spaces whether it’s near the front door or inside a dressing room, a bedroom or a private office.
