It’s no surprise that Phuket is known as the ‘Pearl of the Andaman.’ The island is home to numerous stunning beaches with impressive stretches of white sand and crystal-clear blue water. On top of that, as one of the Malay Peninsula’s important port cities, Phuket is rich in culture and history. The combination all of these factors make Phuket a destination that both Thais and foreigners want to visit at least once in their lives.
Phuket draws tourists and travelers from all over the world, including non-Phuket residents who choose to relocate and settle in this tropical paradise. Its potential and allure urged WOODDEN, Thailand’s leading teak wood brand, to open a showroom in this island town.
“We surveyed the market and discovered that Phuket has such incredible potential,” said Apiwitt Phongsphetrarat, Managing Director of TPS GARDEN FURNITURE, who manages both the WOODDEN and Sesia brands, in regards to the choice to open a showroom in Phuket. “The investment and real-estate markets have shown promising growth. More people are choosing Phuket as their new home because it provides everything they need: food, convenience of commuting, and so on. The island is the hub of the Andaman Sea. In addition, there’s a shift in the way people live and work. Modern technologies now enables one to work practically anywhere. These are the primary reasons why more people, particularly foreigners, are coming to Phuket.”
WOODDEN chose Premium Outlet Phuket as the location of its showroom due to its convenient location on Chalermprakiat Ratchakan Thi 9 Road, one of the key routes used for commuting into and out of Phuket’s city center. The beautifully designed store features not only WOODDEN’s stunning products but also premium-quality leather furniture from the Sesia brand. Before deciding to include the leather couch brand in the new showroom, the TPS team conducted a marketing survey and determined that due to the island’s exceptionally hot and humid weather, consumers prefer fabric over genuine leather when it comes to the material for their furniture. This is why Sesia’s products showcased in the Phuket store are exclusively hand-picked and guaranteed to be unique from the ones available in the Bangkok showrooms.
‘Warming Experience’ is the vibe WOODDEN and Sesia want visitors to get from visiting the showroom. The curtain walls open up the space to the lush natural surroundings, which serve as a great backdrop for the showroom’s furniture. The product display is intended to have a variety of furniture loosely grouped together, simulating the comfortable, homey feel of living corners of a home, whether it be a dining room or a living room, and showcasing the beautiful designs of WOODDEN’s wood furniture and Sesia’s minimalistic and contemporary pieces. Instead of dividing the showroom into zones with towering walls, the overall presentation emphasizes the openness of the space. The open-plan environment allows for greater freedom in moving and rearranging furniture, illustrating how WOODDEN and Sesia’s products may be mixed and matched to suit diverse decorating styles as well as utilitarian requirements.
Aside from the furniture, enormous teak wood panels used as the table top of WOODDEN’s iconic ‘DHAMMACHART’ table are shown at one end of the showroom. The model is one of the brand’s highlights because of how it shows the grandeur of teak wood and its capacity to readily fill the space with its warm, natural presence. The teak wood table tops provide not only naturally gorgeous designs but also durability as a consequence of a rigorous and efficient manufacturing process, making them a perfect choice for many consumers.
WOODDEN also offers a wide range of home solutions, such as engineered and solid teak flooring. Outside, a wooden deck made of two by four teak wood panels that are seamlessly installed using the nail-less technique demonstrates the endurance of teak wood to survive Phuket’s strong rain and unforgiving sun. A section of the showroom is dedicated to a huge assortment of wood flooring materials in a variety of patterns and colors for consumers and designers to pick from. Walking barefoot on the sample products reveals a delicate and warm sensation that only real teak wood can provide.
“We’ve always believed that the role of a good showroom is to offer a real-life experience for our clients,” Apiwitt said in response to our question about the need for a physical showroom in a time when consumers can buy almost anything online. “A lot of the time, people buy furniture online because they have already seen the real thing. A showroom allows customers to see, touch, and feel the products; they can picture having this specific piece of furniture in their house and how it will affect the overall mood and feel of the living area. I guarantee that the sensation you get from natural wood will differ from that of engineered wood.”
