BEST OF HOTEL DESIGN
PIA INTERIOR
(For Thai, press here)
With the completion of its construction in 1957 during the reign of King Rama V, the architecture of Surawongse House becomes the conceptual inspiration of Marriott Hotel Surawongse.
The key principles of the design integrates the spirit of Surawongse House to the interior decoration of the hotel, which are found in details of the entrance hall, lobby, common area and other parts of the program including the hotel rooms. Such spirit is applied to the modern materials and manufacturing process from the the adaptation of Thai textile weaving techniques to metallic materials and the use of Thailand’s local textiles, bringing forth Thai characteristics that look and feel universal while perfectly corresponding with the hotel managed under the international chain such as the Marriott.
Art works created in various types of mediums are featured in the decoration, from textiles, wall murals, carving and hand drawn techniques, to concrete castings, stucco including sculptural pieces by Master Khien Yimsiri. These artistic creations contribute a great deal to the distinctive characteristic of the hotel whose space provides sanctuary to works of Thai Contemporary art while manifesting its own unique design identity.
