WHAT

Our studio was established from a shared vision to create a future in architecture where built environments resonate with the rhythms of nature and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Our designs embrace organic forms and advanced technology, challenging conventional architecture with an approach that’s both timeless and forward-looking. We specialize in resource-efficient buildings, and innovative public spaces, using flowing, curvilinear forms that soften rigid lines to evoke a sense of movement and harmony. This philosophy allows us to guide people through our spaces in a natural, inviting way, creating memorable experiences that are visually and functionally impactful.

WHEN

Unknown Surface Studio established in 2020

WHERE

From Singapore to Germany, to Beijing, and finally Bangkok—before founding Unknown Surface Studio in 2020, our principal partners, Cievanard and Piyanat, gained professional experience across multiple countries, including at world-renowned firms like MAD Architects in Beijing. Everything we learned along the way became the foundation of who we are, shaping our thought processes, inspirations, and the core design philosophy of Unknown Surface Studio today.

WHY

At Unknown Surface Studio, we’re committed to crafting architecture that’s not only visually striking but deeply connected to its context—balancing aesthetics and smart functionality to redefine what the built environment can achieve.

How do you define your own style of work?

What inspires you and what principles do you apply to each project?

We enjoy designing the unknown—things that have yet to come into existence. Every time we create something, we always ask ourselves, ‘Is this Unknown yet?’ This is the playful approach behind our design process.

Which project are you most proud of and why?

Uncloud Coffee marks our first project release, presenting a clear expression of our identity and the distinctive architectural lines that characterize our unique style.

Which part of the process do you enjoy the most during work?

The process of conceptualizing concepts for a project is a stage where we enjoy experimenting with new ideas. We open our minds to different perspectives and possibilities to discover a concept that perfectly suits the project. Then, we gradually express it in various forms before selecting one to further refine and develop in the next steps.

If you could invite any ‘creative’ for a coffee, who would it be and why?

I greatly admire Olafur Eliasson’s work. If given the chance, I would love to get to know him personally, sit down with him, and have a conversation about who he is and the ideas that shape his thinking.
