1960s Cambodian Lost Rock and Roll
April 23 – June 26, 2016
Asia Culture Centre, Library Park, Dong-gu, Gwangju
In the 1960s, popular music of Cambodia saw its golden age through a unique style of music combined with Rock, R&B and Pop music of Western countries. However, during the era of the democratic Kampuchea in the 1970s which was the reign of the Khmer Rouge, many artists were executed or disappeared. Furthermore, only parts of the materials of the period still remain.
ACC Library Park is to hold a linking program with a special exhibition for popular music of Cambodia accompanied by the ‘Cambodia Vintage Music Archive’ which is a professional organization for collection and preservation of materials related to the Khmer music of Cambodia. In addition, various programs will celebrate the golden age of the music of Cambodia in the 1960s including screenings, talk programs and DJ performances.
