ONE OF THE LEADING SNEAKER SHOPS IN THAILAND HAS JUST OPENED THEIR BRAND NEW STORE AND THE DESIGN FROM NONTAWAT CHAROENCHASRI AND HIS STUDIO, THE OTHERS AIMS TO CREATE A NEW SPACE FOR SNEAKERS AND THE SNEAKER HEADS.
Even though the answer to Uniqlo’s latest campaign, “Why do we get dressed?” is simply just to make your life better through ‘life wear’ revealed in their new advertisements, the more important message is how the meaning of clothing and experience is gradually changing.
The role of sneakers and their meaning has also been changing significantly over these past few years as kicks are becoming more than just a source of sportswear but are also forming their own culture that spans from the street to high-end runways.
Carnival, one of the leading sneaker shops in Thailand has just opened their brand new store in Mega Bangna shopping mall with the design from Nontawat Charoenchasri and his studio, The Others aimed at creating a new space for sneakers and the sneaker heads.
Nontawat and The Others installed a huge white wave-like steel frame that looks just like the wire frame seen on a computer screen before rendering to hold hundreds of sneakers while the whole thing floats in space, illuminated by neon lights like a futuristic spaceship. Once visitors become visible inside the white frame with floating sneakers, they all create a 3D storefront that would draw the eyes of any passersby and prompt the questions, is this really a sneaker store? And should we buy some?
