WHO
Taweechob Pinthong (House). I’m a third-year student at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in graphic design.
WHAT
Taweechob Design works on a wide range of projects, from illustration to branding and creative initiatives. I also run Hoxegene, a brand that tries to inspire others and engages in philanthropic actions such as providing free haircuts to hospital patients and giving away element illustrations to individuals who donate towards charitable causes.
WHEN
I used to be a fairly sluggish learner. There was this event where I submitted my portfolio for a university admission and was the only student who failed the interview. Since then, I’ve worked hard to develop myself.
WHY
Taweechob design began as a node that links to others. My goal is to assist individuals to the best of my ability. The support and encouragement I’ve received from that has made me feel more motivated than when I’m working with a paying customer.
How would you describe your personal style?
I believe I am more prone to a more freestyle approach. Much of it is due to the challenges of having to work on a variety of projects while yet being able to develop designs that reflect my own identity.
What are your sources of inspiration and guiding principles?
Everything around me serves as a source of inspiration for me. When I look at things, they inspire me and allow me to focus on what I want to prioritize at the time. Shoshin is my philosophy when it comes to work. It means remembering the first time you were committed to do something. When people seek passion, it can become a source of pressure and stress.
Which of your projects is your favorite, and why?
I prefer projects where I can do things for others for free in exchange for something they truly want me to have. To me, the free haircut for hospital patients feels like I’m receiving something while also helping others, which I consider to be the most important thing in the world.
What is the most enjoyable aspect of working as both an illustrator and a designer?
Being able to meet new clients and fellow designers in order to exchange life and professional experiences and develop good relationships or friendships.
Who would you invite for a cup of coffee if you could invite any “creative” person?
My parents. I believe that sometimes we forget about the people who are closest to us. I feel that before I can use design to solve other people’s problems, I should start with the small things, like my relationships with the people around me.
