SC ASSET teamed up with creatives to share inspiring ideas for the Kaset-Bangbua neighborhood through COBE – a condominium for the new generation – as part of Bangkok Design Week 2024.
SC ASSET, the finest Living Solutions provider, in collaboration with Bangkok Design Week 2024 transformed the Kaset-Bangbua neighborhood into a cozy Co-being to Livable Scape for everyone. COBE Kaset-Sripatum hosted an array of artwork displays, films, the Creative Market, and live music from students and artists, making Bangkok Design Week 2024 come to life under the theme ‘Livable Scape.’
At the heart of it, Bangkok Design Week 2024 was a great opportunity for creatives across various fields to collaborate in designing a city that is nurturing for the body and the soul while still maintaining its aesthetics and putting forward the idea of ‘Livable Scape.’ This aligns with SC ASSET’s philosophy of developing real estate that enhances the quality of life, letting residents live comfortably in homes or condominiums that satisfy their needs.
Being an organization that recognizes the importance of supporting the community of creatives, SC ASSET has consistently supported and participated in Bangkok Design Week. Ms. Chomchada Kuldiloke, Head of Corporate Brand & Communications at SC ASSET, shared a glimpse into the thinking behind the entire event, stating, “SC ASSET realizes how important it is to nurture a relationship with the community surrounding the areas we develop our projects in. We believe this event should be for everyone in Bangkok and not limited to just the Chareonkrung neighborhood. So, similar to last year, this year, we moved project locations outside the main event area. Last year was around the Wongwian Yai area, and this year, it is the Kaset-Bangbua neighborhood. There were many experimental projects from students because we want to give them the opportunity to showcase their talents and for lots and lots of people to see their creations.”
“Bangkok Design Week serves as another platform to express the things our company sees as valuable. This includes many aspects such as the environment, technology and innovation, and design, in which we believe that everything, even everyday living solutions, can be thoughtfully designed. We see this as a trend that the new generation is giving more value to, which is a positive direction, so we want them to remember that SC ASSET sees these ideals as important as well.”
Creating a welcoming city that satisfies lifestyle needs
This is not a quest to undertake alone but one that requires collaboration from every community. For this reason, this year, SC ASSET teamed up with creative partners in Kaset-Bangbua, including universities, academics, designers, artists, and the community. Organizing captivating events so that the masses can explore the hidden stories told in this neighborhood. Dr. Nattawut Usavagovitwong, Director at Bangkok City Lab, played a key role in driving forward the activities in the area and provided an insightful overview of the neighborhood.
Encouraging the new generation to share ideas and reshape the city
Knowing that this neighborhood is surrounded by academic institutions, the main activities in Kaset-Bangbua consist of three elements. The first was the creation of the Third Place. Focusing on providing entertainment and relaxation through live music and films. These activities encourage conversations and connections among students, giving them an oasis to enjoy after a long day of studying.
The second section emphasized the concept of a ‘Livable Scape,’ encouraging changes to make the city safer and more convenient for commuting. Innovations related to the safety of pedestrians from City Lab were further developed into a project for managing footpaths and services in public spaces, including waiting spots for motorcycle taxis (‘Win’ in Thai) to provide convenience for users.
The last section was the Academic Program, inviting university students from around the neighborhood to collaborate on new projects. This was a great opportunity for them to express themselves and get involved in the event, showcasing various creations from designs, music, and films, to business models.
The public experimental area of the neighborhood
The highlights were mainly organized in Kasetsart University and Sripatum University campus grounds and COBE Kaset-Sripatum, the condominium for new ways of living with a community filled with positivity and ideas. Stepping into COBE, the Bamboo Mache Modular will surely be the center of attention. This intricate architecture of eco-friendly bamboo was designed by Thanapat Boonsanan, the founder of Thor.Kaichon Architecture and an expert in bamboo architecture, who has left some interesting remarks on the idea behind this creation.
“Previously, when designing work, I would tailor it to each location. When an exhibition is over, the piece of work would be moved and stored at the office, or the owner of the location might ask for the piece for use in other events. A lot of temporary work would be dismantled and trashed, which made me feel sympathy for the bamboo. For this reason, this year, pieces were intentionally designed to fit in anywhere.”
“The Bamboo Mache Modular is the first project of the year that we can reuse using a technique similar to paper mache, making the piece new and stronger. This reduces waste and allows it to instantly be used as the main structure for following projects. Nearly all my designs this year will be in this series. We invite people to try the work of designers and comment on whether or not it’s really good, so we can further develop future projects from the data. I want Kaset-Bangbua to become an example of a neighborhood that can tell stories without being an old town and may not have as much history as other neighborhoods.”
The highlights of Bangkok Design Week 2024 took place at the COBE Kaset-Sripatum Sales Gallery from the 27th of January to the 4th of February. These included the Bamboo Mache Modular—an eco-friendly bamboo architecture with an experimental design for relaxation using a material of the future, an Audio & Lighting Stage featuring performances from various artists and Projection Mapping, an Outdoor Cinema, the YoUTH{TAK} Food Truck offering local delicacies, and the Lively Street Furniture.
