โครงการ Dusit Laguna Resort Villas and Hotel เกิดขึ้นเพื่อรองรับความต้องการเข้าพักระยะสั้นและระยะยาวของนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติ ที่เพิ่มมาขึ้นทุกๆ ปี โดยโครงการแบ่งออกเป็นสองส่วนใหญ่ๆ คือ โรงแรม และวิลล่าจำนวน 22 หลัง สถาปนิกเลือกวางผังอาคารเปิดออกสู่ทะเลสาบขนาดใหญ่ ให้สามารถรับวิวได้อย่างเต็มประสิทธิภาพ โดยซ้อนชั้นอาคารในแนวราบและบิดแนวแกนอาคารเพื่อบดบังมุมมองซึ่งกันและกันและมอบความเป็นส่วนตัวแก่แขกผู้มาพัก
ในด้านแนวคิดการออกแบบนั้น สถาปนิกดึงเอาองค์ประกอบของรูปแบบบ้านดั้งเดิมของภูเก็ต อย่างการเปิดช่องลมมาผสมผสานกับการออกแบบอาคารแบบสถาปัตยกรรมเขตร้อนชื้น เพื่อให้เกิดการหมุนเวียนอากาศตามธรรมชาติ รวมไปถึงลวดลายไทยบางอย่าง ที่ก็ถูกนำมาลดทอนให้ดูร่วมสมัย ตกแต่งลวดลายและสีตามรูปแบบอาคารเก่าในภูเก็ต ทั้งในส่วนวิลล่า และโรงแรม เพื่อให้สะท้อนถึงความเป็นไทยตามแนวคิดของโครงการในเครือดุสิตธานีเดิม
Dusit Laguna Resort Villas and Hotel is conceived as a result of the growing demand for both short and long stay of foreign tourists in Phuket through the years. The program houses a hotel building and a cluster of 22 villas as the architect delivers a floor plan that opens itself up to the massive lake to fully embrace the spectacular view. Allocated to be horizontally overlapped with the axes thoughtfully twisted, the buildings’ structures visually shield each other’s functional interior space, offering a greater sense of privacy for the guests.
In terms of the design concept, the architect combines the architectural compositions of a traditional Phuket house such as the openings to enable natural airflow to the design elements of Tropical architecture to enhance the program’s natural ventilation. Thai patterns are selected and simplified, rendering a look that is more contemporary. The ornamental details of patterns and colors are also inspired from traditional buildings in Phuket Old Town, reflecting the Thai and regional architectural identity as well as the characteristic of Dusit Thani hotel chain through the aesthetic of both the hotel building and the villas.
