THE SCHEDULE OVERLAPPING OF THE ARCHITECTURE BI/TRI-ENNIALS 2019
September – December 2019

เป็นเรื่องที่น่าสนใจไม่น้อย เมื่อจู่ๆ นิทรรศการสถาปัตยกรรมนานาชาติหลายแห่งทั่วโลก ต่างก็เลือกวันเปิดงานในช่วงเวลาไล่เลี่ยกันภายในปีนี้ ตั้งแต่ Chicago Architecture Biennial (19 กันยายน 2019 – 5 มกราคม 2020) ที่มาพร้อมกับธีม “…and other such stories” ด้วยความพยายามที่จะใช้วิธีคิดแบบใหม่ๆ ในการศึกษาเมือง หรือ International Architecture Biennale of São Paulo (19 กันยายน – 19 ธันวาคม 2019) ซึ่งเน้นไปยังหัวข้อเกี่ยวกับชีวิตประจำวัน ในขณะเดียวกัน Oslo Architecture Triennale (26 กันยายน – 29 พฤศจิกายน 2019) ก็มาพร้อมกับโจทย์อันท้าทายอย่าง The Architecture of Degrowth ไปจนถึง Tallinn Architecture Biennale ที่เอสโตเนีย (11 กันยายน – 30 พฤศจิกายน 2019) และ Lisbon Architecture Triennale ที่จัดขึ้นหลังใครเพื่อน (3 ตุลาคม – 2 ธันวาคม 2019) ช่วงเวลาของการจัดงานที่คาบเกี่ยวกันนี้ บีบให้ผู้ที่สนใจเดินทางตามไปเก็บครบทุกงานได้ยาก (เว้นแต่ว่าชีพจรการเงินจะเต้นแรงพอ)

อย่างไรก็ตาม Phineas Harper หนึ่งในทีมคิวเรเตอร์ของ Oslo ก็แสดงความคิดเห็นที่น่าสนใจว่าการจัดงานลักษณะนี้ นับเป็นการเอื้อให้กับคนในพื้นที่มากกว่าการคาดหวังผลประโยชน์ทางเศรษฐกิจ เมื่อลองหันกลับมามองดูเทศกาลในภูมิภาคเอเชียอย่าง Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (กันยายน – พฤศจิกายน 2019) หรือ Bi-City Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism / Architecture (ปลายปี 2019 – ฤดูใบไม้ผลิปี 2020) ซึ่งต่างก็มุ่งเน้นไปยังความพยายามสร้างการรับรู้ให้กับสาธารณชนทั่วไป ท่ามกลางการเปลี่ยนแปลงในยุคดิจิตอลที่ส่งผลต่อวิถีชีวิตคนในเมืองและชุมชน ก็เป็นตัวอย่างที่แสดงให้เห็นถึงแนวโน้มของนิทรรศการสถาปัตยกรรมในปีนี้ ที่ต้องการสร้างบทสนทนากับคนในพื้นที่เป็นสำคัญ ส่วนจะทำได้มากน้อยแค่ไหนกันนั้น คงต้องติดตามดูกันต่อไป

What does one think when the Architecture Bi / Triennials around the world have selected opening dates very close to each other this year? Firstly, the Chicago Architecture Biennial (SEP 19, 2019 – JAN 5, 2020) comes with a theme “…and other such stories” in an attempt to take on new approaches toward the studying of the city while the International Architecture Biennale of São Paulo (SEP 19 – DEC 19, 2019) focuses on everyday architecture. Meanwhile, Oslo Architecture Triennale (SEP 26 – NOV 29, 2019) takes on a challenging topic, ‘The Architecture of Degrowth.’ Then the Tallinn Architecture Biennale, Estonia (SEP 11 – NOV 30, 2019) and the Lisbon Architecture Triennale hold the last positions in the calendar (OCT 3 – DEC 2, 2019). The overlapping schedule of these festivals forces their visitors to decide to visit just some of the programming as it will be hard to see every single event within the time given (assuming you’re a jet-setter).

However, one of the Oslo curatorial team members, Phineas Harper made an interesting comment stating that by having these kinds of festivals all start so close to each other this year, they are more conducive to local consumption. When we look back at the festivals in Asia, the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (SEP – NOV 2019) and Bi-City Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism / Architecture (Late 2019 – Spring 2020), both focused all efforts on creating awareness for the general public amid the changes in the digital age which affect the ways of life in the city and also the local community. They can serve as showcases to demonstrate some tendencies of architectural exhibitions this year which are eager to create a dialogue with locals. So, please stay tuned and check out how they strive to meet their goals as we wait to see what unfolds.

DRAWING, DESIGNING, THINKING: 150 YEARS OF TEACHING ARCHITECTURE AT MIT
February, 14th – August, 25th 2019

นิทรรศการเนื่องในโอกาสครบรอบ 150 ปีของภาควิชาสถาปัตยกรรมสถาบัน MIT โดยความร่วมมือกันระหว่าง MIT Museum และภาควิชาสถาปัตยกรรม ซึ่งเป็นแหล่งการสอนวิชาสถาปัตยกรรมที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดในสหรัฐอเมริกา

นิทรรศการได้รับการออกแบบทั้งหมดเป็น 5 ธีม ประกอบไปด้วย สตูดิโอ พร็อกซี่ การวิจัย สหวิทยากร และอนาคต ทั้งหมดนี้เน้นไปที่ผลงานของนักเรียนและคณาจารย์ในหลักสูตรประวัติศาสตร์ของภาควิชา ภายใต้วัตถุประสงค์หลักของนิทรรศการที่ต้องการแสดงให้เห็นว่าภาควิชามีนวัตกรรมอย่างต่อเนื่องในการสอน เพื่อเตรียมนักเรียนให้พร้อมสำหรับการออกแบบในโลกที่กำลังเปลี่ยนแปลงไปอย่างรวดเร็ว สำหรับไฮไลท์ภายในนิทรรศการเป็นการเปิดกรุจัดแสดงผลงานศิษย์เก่าที่มีชื่อเสียงอย่าง Robert R. Taylor, I.M. Pei และ Charles Correa ที่พวกเขาได้ทำขึ้นในขณะเป็นนักเรียนที่สถาบัน

This exhibition celebrates the 150-year anniversary of MIT Department of Architecture as a collaboration between MIT Museum and the Department of Architecture, the oldest architectural program in the United States.

Curated into 5 themes: Studio, Proxy, Research, Multidiscipline and Future, the exhibition focuses entirely on the works of students and professors from the department’s History program with the main objective being to showcase the faculty’s consistent and innovative educational contributions designed and developed to prepare students for the rapidly changing world. The exhibition’s highlight features a showcasing of the works that the department’s reputable alumni such as Robert R. Taylor, I.M. Pei and Charles Correa created during their student years.

This year’s central theme of Business Of Design Week is ‘Think ∙ Collaborate ∙ Create.’ This design event will hold 14 talk sessions by more than 70 speakers from the design scene and businesses from 15 countries. The talks will concern various aspects of design and innovation and include those of branding, space, communication, product and culture. Apart from the talks and conference, this year’s BODW will also feature the ‘BODW City Program,’ which is a creative community activation program designed to engage with a larger audience.

กลับมาอีกครั้งกับงานอีเวนต์ด้านการออกแบบบนเกาะฮ่องกง Business of Design Week ประจำปีนี้มาในธีม “Think ∙ Collaborate ∙ Create” โดยจะประกอบไปด้วยงานทอล์คกว่า 14 ช่วง มีสปีคเกอร์มาร่วมงานกว่า 70 คน จาก 15 ประเทศ ประเด็นที่กำลังจะถูกหยิบมาถกกันในงานนี้เกี่ยวกับ หลายๆ แง่มุมของงานออกแบบ และนวัตกรรมที่มีผลต่อภาคธุรกิจ และวัฒนธรรม นอกจากงานทอล์ค ในปีนี้ยังมีกิจกรรม BODW City Programme ที่จะจัดกระจายตามจุดต่างๆ ของเมือง ซึ่งจะเปิดโอกาสให้คนทั่วไปได้เข้าถึงงานออกแบบมากขึ้น
