From the given brief being the playlist of swing jazz songs, to the imagined luxurious and flamboyant visuals of a vintage theatre with red velvet curtains, the designer translates the “year 1920-The Roaring Twenties” concept and transforms the standard 120-square meter space inside a unit with transparent glass walls at urban community mall Velaa Sindhorn Village in Langsuan neighborhood.
Created as a result is a soundproofed space with meticulously curated sequences of access derived purely from user experiences. The first room is the reception area that limits visitors’ visual access of the hall located further inside of the program. Walking up the stairs to the common area, one will encounter the main bar designed to resemble a ticket booth of a theater from the 1920s and the bar’s main open foyer that precisely bespeaks the type of luxury the concept aspires to achieve.
The very same main bar is designed to be the focal point of the entire program with the use of material, as well as with the gold color and height that goes up all the way to the 5-meter-high ceiling. The area hosts the establishment’s main functionalities as the cocktail bar that can be easily accessed by both the clients and operators. Next to the main bar is the seating area designed into booth seats that gradually descend to the stage situated at the furthest end of the space. The design of the booths offers greater privacy while leading users’ focus to the stage, and keeping the seats from blocking the views of other customers when shows are being performed. These seats also convey the spirit of a vintage theatre, coinciding with the main concept from which the project is conceived.
Materials are chosen to create the mood of vintage luxurious Gatsby feel with the presence of brass, dark red velvet curtains, green marble, dark and glossy wood surfaces and the mirrored ceiling, which with the help of stunning lighting design, helps accentuates the seamless effect. The lighting of the bar area is designed to be comparatively softer with the leading line that direct users’ point of view towards the stage.
