WHO
Janejira Taechakampu (Jenjen)
WHAT
An illustrator with the pseudonym Jentwo.
WHEN
I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. But it wasn’t until my sophomore year of graphic design that I realized I wanted to be an illustrator.
WHERE
Bangkok. But I work with clients from all around the world.
WHY
The name Jentwo is derived from my own nickname, ‘Jenjen.’
How would you define the style of your work?
Personally, I would describe it as vibrant and vivacious, with a sense of humor as well as flexibility. So, for projects that require me to try out different approaches, I’m completely happy with changing the tone or my storytelling to fit the context of the project.
What are your inspirations behind each project?
For my personal projects, the only inspiration and goal I have is to do what makes me happy.
What project are you most proud of, and why?
The Art & Style cover I did for The Washington Post’s 2022 Summer Books. I like how the work combines everything that I like: summer, beaches, and books. And to be able to have my work published in a newspaper has always been one of my childhood dreams.
What is your favorite part of the work process?
I like that stage when I study the brief, and so many possibilities come to mind. The design development process that follows will eventually filter out these ideas. And while I like to work, my favorite step of the work process is when the work is finished (laugh).
If you could ask one creative individual to have a cup of coffee with, who would it be and why?
I’ll have to go with Susan Kare. She is a graphic designer behind some notable Macintosh icons, bitmap typefaces, and several other creations. I love the aesthetics of early Apple, and whenever I see Susan Kare’s pixelated icons, I think they’re so timeless, easy to comprehend, and very cute.
