WHAT
Atelier01 (A01) is a bespoke design consultancy engaged in architectural and interior projects in Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
WHEN
A01 was first established in 2006 in Singapore and subsequently 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand and 2018 in Indonesia.
WHERE
In Bangkok, our shophouse office is located close to the Wongwian Yai BTS station. We also have a shophouse in Jakarta and we are currently building a private gallery in Singapore.
WHY
We believe that a space should be well-composed and balanced. When we look at a space, we consider many aspects including lighting, vista, materials used and other details to deliver a meaningful environment.
How would you describe your work?
Refined and Timeless
What is your inspiration and guiding principle for each creation?
We get excited every time we see a design that appears simple yet meaningful. We like our work to be subtle and contextual. Clean lines, pure form and natural elements are fundamental to our design language.
What project are you most proud of?
AWANN Villas in Phuket. We have the opportunity to take on the development of 4 villas that are different in concepts and sizes. We hope to push the boundary of typical tropical homes here. The villas will feature a glass box living area with open sides that allow us to connect seamlessly with the outdoors.
Which stage of the design process do you like the most?
It would be the realization of the project and gradually seeing our ideas come to life. In the building process, there can be unexpected opportunities discovered on-site, for instance, by aligning the window to a tree or framing a mountain view. It is also very satisfying to experience the actual product after all the design and planning.
If you could invite a ‘creative’ to coffee, who would you invite and why?
There are many creatives that we admire in the design scene, especially the smaller contemporary offices within SE Asia. It’s too difficult to pick one!
