Teak wood has been a part of the construction of Thai architecture for as long as one can remember. What usually comes to Thai people’s minds whenever there’s a discussion about teak wood in Thai vernacular buildings are images of traditional Thai houses. In an attempt to introduce new takes and possibilities to teak wood and expand the potential of this great material, WoodDen, a company with know-how and expertise in teak wood products, reimagines teak wood through its exhibition booth at Architect ’22 with the up-and-coming architecture studio, PHTAA living design, as the collaborator.
The design team of PHTAA personally visited WoodDen’s factory to learn about the manufacturing process from the beginning to the end. Through these visits, they were able to see a variety of products developed under WoodDen’s brand, and learn about the manufacturing process and its efficient and environmentally friendly management and use of resources. PHTAA translates their impression of WoodDen’s operations into the design of the exhibition booth that takes on the ‘Wood-Den Exploring’ concept.
The booth’s functional space is divided into sections. The first houses ‘Wood-Den Home,’ the part where visitors can browse the brand’s products and inquire in-depth information and consultation from WoodDen’s knowledgable and experienced staff, reaffirming the brand’s expertise in teak wood among potential customers and the general public.
The second part of the exhibition is intended to be the highlight. Called Teak-Garden of Columns, the space fascinates spectators with rows of columns of various sizes and heights. The calculated but seemingly randomized arrangement of the WoodDen columns curates a landscape that is akin to a small forest. These columns are actually adapted from the wide range of products under the WoodDen brand from WoodDen floor panels, doors, tabletops, proposing and showcasing to exposition goers what teak wood can be and offer. WoodDen piles and columns of varying sizes stand surprisingly straight, a result of a mechanism designed to secure the foundation to each cluster of columns, a brilliant technique, which is a collaborative effort between the PHTAA and WoodDen team.
By transforming the design on paper into reality through a collaborative process, WoodDen’s exhibition space perfectly and creatively encapsulates the Architect ’22’s theme ‘CO – WITH CREATORS. Experience the wonder of teak wood at WoodDen’s exhibition booth at Architect ’22.
