EBBA, A MODULAR LEISURE CHAIR, IS A COLLABORATION OF THAI DESIGN STUDIOS KAOI AND THINKK STUDIO. WITH ITS DESIGN ALLOWING FOR MANY POSSIBLE CONFIGURATIONS

Among the hottest trend in the product design is allowing the users to (re)design the products, either to better fit their characters or to make them “one-of-a-kind”.
EBBA, a modular leisure chair, is a collaboration of Thai design studios KAOI (literally “chair”) and THINKK Studio. With its design allowing for many possible configurations, EBBA was among the 21 chairs in THINKK Studio’s exhibition “WHY DO WE NEED ANOTHER CHAIR” at the Bangkok Design Week 2020 in February.
“It started from asking ‘What’d it be like if we transform a graphic line into a chair structure?’ and ‘Is it possible for us to design the chair the look of which the users can always adjust?'”, explains Chatdaroon Narkphanit, KAOI’s designer. Her design for the chair’s basic structure, or the juxtaposition of upper frames and armrests, is in four styles: the all-wavy ‘Han’; ‘Somma’ with curved armrests and staircase-like upper frame; ‘Franz’ with straight armrests and curved upper frame; and Mujoel, the opposite to ‘Franz’. For different effects, they are available in buttercup yellow, midnight indigo, olive green and shiny chromium.

These allow for many different mix-and-match possibilities, each of which would suit-in certain space and function. An easily (re)assembled chair like EBBA, which fits both indoors and outdoors, is not only about sitting comfortably but can also add vibrancy to our homes. Other matching accessories like auxiliary legs, seat mats and pillows can also be customized.
As of now, KAOI has only made available one line of EBBA FAMILY 2020 products; we believe that more will soon follow, after the pandemic is resolved.
