ICONSIAM STUNS AT ASIA PACIFIC AWARDS: SWEEPS UP FOUR OF 12 FIRST PRIZES AT INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF SHOPPING CENTERS’ ASIA PACIFIC AWARDS PROGRAMME

It has been almost a year since the arrival of ICONSIAM has changed the lifestyle of inhabitants of the Thonburi area. With this  riverside  destination, the  folks of Thonburi do not need to commute across the river to the inner city for a quality hangout space while the imminent completion of the Golden Line skytrain is also expected to change the face of the Klong San neighborhood from what it used to be. Recently, ICONSIAM  took home four out of twelve First Prizes (12 categories)  of Asia Pacific Awards hosted by International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC)  in Singapore. The win grants ICONSIAM  as the project with highest number of first prize awards for any new development in the history of the awards program.

The first of the four prizes, Best New Development, is awarded for the project’s 750,000 square-meter functional space that celebrates the country’s local art and culture. The program brings together works of Contemporary art by internationally recognized Thai artists, cultural wisdoms and Thai identity that are integrated as a part of the project’s functional spaces, turning ICONSIAM into the destination that attracts both Thai people and travellers from all around the world.

The next category is Best Support to Business awarded for ICONSIAM’s ‘SookSiam’ concept.  “It is a platform that brings together products and services from hundreds of small entrepreneurs from across  Thailand’s  77 provinces. We support these local business operators with merchandising and marketing ideas to help them to penetrate international markets,”  said  Mr. Chayapong Naviroj, Chief Executive Officer of SookSiam

While each and every local wisdom and cultural heritage has its own uniqueness, appeal and strength, they are undeniably a language that needs to be digested, translated and thoughtfully curated in the designated parts of the program as something that both local and international users can understand. Having recognized such values, ICONSIAM interprets these local wisdoms and cultures into ‘SookSiam’, creating a miniature version of Thailand on its G floor, garnering interests among those who have experienced the space as well as prospective visitors.

Best Grand Opening and Best Public Relations are the other two awards ICONSIAM brought home at this year’s award. The interesting records that come with the awards is that  the opening program has generated over THB 900 millions-worth of coverage around the world and was attended by more than 1,000 local and international reporters. “We are pursuing innovative marketing strategies that give us new ways of creating emotional engagement with our stakeholders and also make them into champions of the ideas that ICONSIAM represents,”  Ms. Mayuree Chaipromprasith, Senior Vice President – Marketing, Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., told art4d.
